At the request of the United Nations… IIFA Secretary General holds a meeting with the Special Adviser to the UN Secretary General

His Excellency the Secretary General of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFA), Prof. Koutoub Moustapha Sano, held on Tuesday, Safar 28, 1443H corresponding to October 05, 2021G, a consultative meeting with His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Al Meraikhi, Special Adviser to His Excellency the Secretary General of the United Nations through video conferencing.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the specialized seminar organized by the United Nations last week on the role of Islamic social financing in addressing the effects of climate change.

In this context, His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Al Meraikhi praised Prof. Sano’s valuable intervention, which drew the attention of His Excellency the Secretary General of the United Nations, from whom his advisor conveys his great appreciation for the Academy’s contribution to raising the awareness of Muslim peoples and societies about the importance of these Islamic financing tools in the field of mitigating the negative effects of climate change by supporting and assisting the victims in order to alleviate the effect of these disasters and rehabilitate them.

Dr. Al Meraikhi added that, on this occasion, the United Nations is looking forward to an integrated strategic partnership with the Academy that includes all the organization’s structures and institutions within a unified operational framework, in order to coordinate efforts and make maximum use of the important role played by the Academy in advancing the awareness effort within Muslim countries and Muslim societies.

For his part, His Excellency the Secretary General of the Academy expressed his support for this initiative and conveyed to Dr. Al Meraikhi his thanks and appreciation to His Excellency the Secretary General of the United Nations for his confidence in the Academy as a universal jurisprudential and scientific institution capable of coordinating the awareness and educational effort within the member states and Muslim societies.

His Excellency the Secretary General also referred to the continuation of the Academy’s efforts to support the causes of the United Nations and its subsidiary institutions such as the World Health Organization, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the polio vaccination campaign in a number of member states, and most recently the vaccination campaign against the Corona pandemic.

At the end of the meeting, His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Al Meraikhi expressed his deep thanks to His Excellency the Secretary General for granting this meeting and confirmed that he would convey to His Excellency the Secretary General of the United Nations the preparedness of the Academy to enter into a long-term strategic partnership with the UN for cooperation and coordination to implement projects and events of humanitarian nature. His Excellency also indicated his personal readiness to meet with the Secretary General of the United Nations for further discussion and development of all the provisions of this agreement, which he hopes to see the light of day soon.
