IIFA participates in 5th session of consultative meeting of Islamic Committee of International Crescent and National Societies of Red Crescent of OIC

Dr. Abdel Fattah Mahmoud Abnaouf, Director of the Department of Planning, International Cooperation and External Relations, representing His Excellency the Secretary General of the Academy, participated in the fifth session of the consultative meeting of the Islamic Committee of the International Crescent and the National Societies of the Red Crescent of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which was held in Jeddah between 5-8 of Muharram 1445 AH, corresponding to 23-26 July 2023.

The session on the first day included opening speeches by the Turkish Red Crescent, followed by a speech by His Excellency the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, then a speech by the Chairman of the Islamic Committee of the International Crescent, then a speech by the President of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority, and the handover ceremony of the consultative meeting from the presidency of the Turkish Red Crescent to the presidency of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority.

The meeting, through various scientific working papers and practical experiences presented to the OIC countries in the field of charitable and humanitarian work, aimed to unify the efforts of humanitarian organizations and charitable bodies working in the field of humanitarian work to serve international business to reflect the exchange of expertise and practical experiences for the digital transformation of National Societies in the fields of humanitarian work.

After deliberations over four days, the meeting concluded several recommendations that contribute to the development of joint humanitarian action, most notably: The importance of holding the periodic consultative meeting between the Islamic Committee of the International Crescent and the national bodies and societies of the Red Crescent and Red Cross in the OIC countries and considering it a platform within the framework of the Organization and the need for bilateral and multilateral partnerships between National Societies and with the Islamic Committee of the International Crescent to enhance joint cooperation in the areas of developing human and developmental capacities in all the basic tasks of National Societies related to humanitarian work.

It is worth mentioning that the fifth session of the consultative meeting was attended by representatives of the relevant national societies of more than fifty (50) countries, OIC Member States, as well as senior officials of the International Committee of the Red Cross, the International Federation of Red Crescent and the Arab Red Cross and Red Crescent Organization.
