His Eminence Dr. Suwed Jumaa Miyanja was born in 1966 in the Republic of Uganda. He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree (Higher License) in Shariah from the Islamic University of Madinah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in 1990. He earned his Master’s degree in 1996 and a Ph.D. in Usul al-Fiqh (Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence) from the same university in 2000. He also obtained a Higher Diploma in Education from the Islamic University in Uganda in 2003, and a Diploma in Law from the Law Development Centre in Kampala in 2008.
In 2021, His Eminence was appointed as a delegated member of the Council of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFA), representing the Republic of Uganda.
Professional and Academic Positions
His Eminence has held several academic and administrative positions, including:
- Part-time lecturer at the Faculty of Arabic Language and Islamic Studies at the Islamic University in Uganda.
- Full-time lecturer at the Faculty of Law at the Islamic University in Uganda.
- Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Law at the same university.
- Dean of the Faculty of Law.
- Dean of the Faculty of Shariah and Law and Head of the Department of Shariah at the University of Zanzibar, United Republic of Tanzania.
- Currently serves as an Associate Professor at the Islamic University in Uganda.
- Imam and Khatib of Makerere University, Uganda.
Academic and Professional Participation
He has participated in numerous seminars and conferences on:
- International Humanitarian Law in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
- Terrorism in Africa in the Republic of Sudan.
- The establishment of the Union of African Scholars in the Republic of Mali.
