His Eminence Sheikh Al-Hassan Omar Al-Farouq Jara was born in 1967 in the city of Djougou, Republic of Benin, in West Africa. He received his secondary school certificate from Al-Azhar of Lebanon in 1985. He obtained the Higher Degree (Al-Ijazah Al-‘Aliyah) in 1989 from the Faculty of Shariah affiliated with Dar Al-Fatwa in Beirut, Lebanon. He also earned a Master’s Degree in 1995 from the Higher Institute of Islamic Studies of Al-Maqasid Association. The title of his thesis was: “Political Conditions and Their Repercussions on Muslims in West Africa (An Applied Study of Benin).” He further studied Political and Administrative Sciences for two years at the Lebanese University.
His Eminence was appointed as a Designated Member of the Council of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFA), representing the Republic of Benin on 22 March 2015.
His Eminence has held several positions, including serving as a Lecturer at the Islamic University in Magburaka, Sierra Leone, an Officer in the Da‘wah and Guidance Department of the Islamic Forum Office in Benin, and Director of the Islamic Forum Office in Togo. He currently serves as a Religious Adviser to the Beninese Islamic Union, Vice President of the Higher Islamic Council of Benin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Charitable Association for Education and Social Development, Director and Supervisor of the Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Institute for the Training of Qur’an Memorizers, and Supervisor of the Committee for the Care of New Muslims. He is also an expert in humanitarian and charitable work.
