Born in 1948 in Gharbia governorate in Egypt, H.E. Dr. Abdullah Mabrouk Al-Najjar finished memorizing the Noble Qur’an at age ten and joined the Religious Science Institute in Dessouq region, affiliated to Al-Azhar, and then graduated from Al-Azhar preparatory and secondary schools. His Eminence then continued at Al- Azhar’s Faculty of Sharia and Law, obtaining a bachelor’s in Sharia and Law in 1975, a master’s in Comparative Jurisprudence in 1979, then a doctorate in Comparative Jurisprudence, with highest distinction, in 1984. His Eminence held significant positions, as the first dean of the Faculty of Higher Studies at Al-Azhar University, professor at the Faculty of Sharia and Law, professor of higher studies and head of the Department of Private Law at the Faculty of Islamic Studies and Arabic Language for Girls at the same university. His Eminence has also been a member of Al-Azhar’s Islamic Research Academy, the Supreme Council of Al-Azhar, the Supreme Committee for Legislative Reform at the Ministry of Justice, and the Fifth Egyptian Constitution Drafting Committee. His Eminence has served as Egypt’s expert at the Arab Women’s Organization, chairman of the Board of Trustees of Imam Hussein Mosque, chairman of the Board of Trustees of Sayyida Nafisa Mosque in Cairo, Secretary of the Promotion Committee of Al-Azhar Professors and various Egyptian and Arab universities, member of the Council of Al-Azhar University and the Councils of the Faculties of Sharia, Law, Islamic and Arabic Studies for Girls, Chairman of the Committee for Updating Islamic Jurisprudence and Dismantling Extremist Thought at the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, alternate rapporteur of the Fiqh Research Committee, rapporteur of Al-Quds Committee, and member of the Committees of Quranic Sciences, Sunnah, and Theology at Al-Azhar’s Islamic Research Academy. His Eminence is the recipient of the First-Class State Medal for Science and Arts. H.E. Prof. Abdullah Al- Najjar has been an appointed member from the Arab Republic of Egypt in the International Islamic Fiqh Academy since April 25, 2009.
