Head of International Cooperation attends OIC Universities Coordination Meeting

Upon the invitation of the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM), Dr. Alhagi Manta Drammeh, Head of the International Cooperation and External Relations Division, represented the Academy at the 2nd Coordination Meeting of OIC’s Islamic Universities, hosted by IIUM, on 24-25 Jumada Al-Ula 1446, corresponding to 28-27 November 2024, at IIUM’s headquarters in Gombak, Malaysia.

In his opening remarks, H.E. Prof. Datuk Osman Bakar, Rector of IIUM, expressed his gratitude for the support received by IIUM from the OIC Secretariat General in hosting the coordination meeting, noting that this meeting was timely and relevant to enable universities to play a pivotal role in societies through their participation. Furthermore, Tan Sri Samsudin, President of the University, emphasized the importance of such meetings in supporting economic growth through the development of educational policies and curricula in accordance with the development needs of Muslim countries.

Dr Drammeh gave an overview of the vision, mission and objectives of the Academy and the scientific role it plays among Muslims through its scientific meetings and seminars. He emphasised that the International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFA) is a global scientific institution and one of the most important subsidiary bodies of the OIC. Commenting on IIFA’s vision and strategic plan, Dr Drammeh said, “IIFA aims to become a leading global jurisprudential reference to be consulted by the countries and communities of the Muslim world to obtain the rulings of the Shariah on issues of concern to them and to find appropriate solutions to contemporary life issues based on the Holy Qur’an, the Prophet’s Sunnah and the outstanding Islamic heritage”.

Delegations from five OIC universities and institutions, senior IIUM staff and representatives from other Malaysian universities and institutions attended the coordination meeting.
