His Excellency General Sékouba Konaté, former President of the Republic of Guinea, visited the headquarters of the Secretariat General of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy in Jeddah on Saturday 29 Ramadan 1446, corresponding to 29 March 2025, which is the first visit of its kind for a former head of state.
The President was received by H.E. Prof. Koutoub Moustapha Sano, Secretary General of the Academy, who greeted him and his companions and expressed his appreciation for this visit, while praising his efforts in promoting civil peace and national reconciliation during his leadership of the transitional period in his country between 2009 and 2011. Additionally, His Excellency briefed his guest on the Academy’s vision, mission, and activities, stressing the Academy’s keenness to spread the concept of moderation, promote constructive dialogue among followers of religions and sects, consolidate the values of moderation and tolerance, and reject intolerance and extremism in order to promote coexistence and cooperation among peoples and lay the foundations for harmony and peace among nations.
On his side, General Konaté expressed his great pleasure in visiting this prestigious institution, which today is considered the utmost religious reference for OIC Member States and Muslim communities abroad. He also praised the Academy’s leading role in correcting misconceptions about Islam and emphasizing its rejection of violence, extremism, and terrorism in all its forms.
At the end of the visit, the Secretary General presented the former President of Guinea with a copy of the book “Resolutions and Recommendations of the Academy” in French and some of the Academy’s publications.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Moez Al-Riyahi, Director of Projects and Funding at the Academy.
