
His Excellency Professor Dr. koutoub Moustapha Sano, Secretary-General of the Academy, received His Excellency Mr. Ihsan Ovut, Secretary-General of the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC), on Thursday, 3 Sha‘ban 1447 AH, corresponding to 22 January 2026, at the Academy’s headquarters in Jeddah, on the sidelines of his official duties at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
At the beginning of the meeting, His Excellency welcomed Mr. Ihsan Ovet, expressing his gratitude and appreciation for the visit, and affirming the Academy’s readiness to strengthen avenues of cooperation with SMIIC in areas of mutual interest. He emphasised that such cooperation contributes to serving the issues of the Islamic Ummah and supporting joint scientific and institutional efforts.
For his part, Mr Ihsan Ovut expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to His Excellency for the warm welcome and generous hospitality. He reiterated SMIIC’s desire to deepen and enhance cooperation with the Academy, particularly in jurisprudential matters related to the halal industry. He also highlighted the importance of organising joint scientific conferences and seminars dedicated to related topics.
The two sides agreed, in principle, to organise a scientific conference focusing on the opportunities and challenges of adopting halal industry standards in the Islamic world and across Muslim communities globally.
The meeting was attended by Mr Mohammed Al‑Munzir Redha Al‑Shawk, Director of the Cabinet and Protocol; Dr Alhagi Manta Drammeh, Head of the International Cooperation and External Relations Division; and Mr Amjad Ibrahim Al‑Mansi, Head of the Protocol Division at the Academy.
