As part of the ongoing cooperation between the International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFA) and several British institutions, the Academy received Mr Samad Chaudhry, Political Counsellor at the British Embassy in Riyadh, and Ms. Dunyazad Yousif, Prosperity and Trade Officer at the British Consulate-General in Jeddah, on Thursday, 28 Rabi‘ al-Awwal 1448 AH, corresponding to 10 September 2026, at the Headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Academy in Jeddah.
The delegation was received by Dr. Alhagi Manta Drammeh, Director of the Department of Planning, Development, International Cooperation, Archives and Follow-up, on behalf of H.E. Professor Dr. Koutoub Moustapha Sano, Secretary General of the Academy, together with Mr. Osama bin Mohammed Al-Majdoui, Acting Head of the Department of Financial Affairs and Accounting.
At the outset of the meeting, Mr Samad Chaudhry expressed his pleasure at visiting the Academy and thanked the Academy for the kind invitation to participate in the international symposium on “The Role of Religious Leaders in Combating Violence Against Women.” He commended the symposium for its rich scholarly content, excellent organization, and the valuable opportunity it provided to engage with a distinguished group of scholars, intellectuals, and experts from around the world.
For his part, Dr. Drammeh conveyed to the delegation the warm greetings of the Secretary General and his appreciation for their participation in the symposium and their valuable scholarly contributions. He emphasised that such participation reflects the strength of existing cooperation between the Academy, British institutions, and Islamic organisations in the United Kingdom, while also promoting interfaith dialogue and constructive cultural engagement.
The two sides also discussed ways to strengthen and further develop cooperation between the Academy and several British institutions, particularly the University of Birmingham, Al-Maktoum College of Higher Education, and the Islamic Cultural Centre. Discussions focused on proposals for organizing academic and educational visits for students to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as holding a joint conference in the United Kingdom on promoting moderation and countering extremism from a religious perspective.
In addition, the meeting explored potential avenues of collaboration in the field of artificial intelligence and related religious perspectives, highlighting the importance of fostering scholarly engagement with emerging technologies and their ethical implications.
