His Eminence Dr. Tariq Abdullah

Dr. Tariq Abdullah was born on 25 September 1978 in the city of Pemba, in Cabo Delgado Province, northern Republic of Mozambique.

He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Sharia and Law from the International University of Africa in Khartoum (Republic of the Sudan) in 2003. He also pursued postgraduate studies in Administrative Law at the Catholic University of Mozambique in 2013.

Dr. Tariq Abdullah has represented the Republic of Mozambique at the International Islamic Fiqh Academy since 24 August 2024.

He has held numerous important positions in his country, the Republic of Mozambique, including: Advisor to the Minister of Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs; Chairman of the Public Ethics Committee at the Ministry of Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs; National Director of Legal and Constitutional Affairs (2015–2021); and Delegate of the Institute for Legal Aid and Assistance in Sofala Province, central Mozambique (2011–2015).

Dr. Tariq also carries out various national and international responsibilities, including serving as the focal point for economic acceleration measures aimed at removing Mozambique from the grey list at the Ministry of Justice, the Government of the Republic of Mozambique’s focal point before the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, and the representative of the Ministry of Justice before the National Information Office.

In the academic field, he has served as a collaborating lecturer at several distinguished educational institutions in Mozambique, including Mussa Bin Bique University, the Higher Institute of Accounting and Auditing, the Alberto Chipande Higher Institute of Science and Technology, and Jean Piaget University of Mozambique, where he taught Commercial Law, Criminal Procedure Law, and Diplomatic Arabic.

Dr. Tariq possesses extensive experience in legal and legislative work, having participated in the drafting of decentralization and electoral legislative packages. He has also served as a legal advisor and translator in several diplomatic assignments.

Dr. Tariq is fluent in Portuguese and Arabic (reading and writing), in addition to having proficiency in English and several local Mozambican languages, including Makua, Kimwani, and Shangana.
