A joint initiative between the General Secretariat of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFA) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and Displaced Persons (UNHCR), started on the evening of Friday, 20 of Shaban 1443 AH, corresponding to April 2, 2021 AD. The initiative is a broad joint digital awareness campaign which aims to highlight the necessary humanitarian needs of refugees and displaced persons around the world.
This participation comes within the framework of strengthening cooperation and partnership relations between the Academy and the UNHCR in order to support the issues of refugees and displaced persons everywhere.
This participation also confirms the scientific and the Shariah role of the Academy, as the first global jurisprudential reference for Islamic countries and Muslim communities, in issuing fatwas and resolutions in order to urge the provision of necessary support and urgent aid for the cause of refugees and displaced persons, which is primarily a humanitarian issue.
Accordingly, the International Islamic Fiqh Academy issued a fatwa calling on Muslims around the world to give part of their Zakat and donations to finance the activities and programs of the UNHRC aimed at saving millions of people who live in extremely harsh living conditions and suffer under the burden of poverty and hardships.
In support of this awareness campaign, His Excellency Prof. Koutoub Mustapha Sano, Secretary General of the Academy, directed Mr. Muhammad Al-Idrissi Director of Media, Public Relations, and ICT at the Academy, and Mr. Mourad Tlili Media Advisor to His Excellency the Secretary General of the Academy to represent the General Secretariat of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy in the campaign and to provide it with all the necessary support to enable it to achieve its desired goals.
