His Excellency Professor Koutoub Moustapha Sano, Secretary General of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFA), visited the headquarters of the Supreme Islamic Council in Algiers, on Sunday 17 Jumada al-Awwal 1444H corresponding to 11 December 2022G, as part of his official working visit to Algeria.
Upon his arrival, His Excellency and his accompanying delegation were received by Dr. Abu Abdullah Ghulamallah, President of the Council and former Minister of Religious Affairs, along with His Eminence Professor Kamal Bouzidi, Algeria’s member in the Council of the Academy, and a group of senior scholars and religious leaders in the Council and representative of the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His Excellency the President of the Council welcomed His Excellency and thanked him for this historic visit, which is the first since the Secretary General assumed his duties, noting the great position that the Academy enjoys among the member states and peoples of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) as the first religious reference in the Muslim world, and he also expressed the Council’s aspiration to enhance cooperation and coordination between the Council and the Academy in areas of common interest.
For his part, His Excellency the Secretary General expressed his great pleasure and honor to visit the Supreme Islamic Council of Algeria, thanking its president and his assistants for the good reception and warm welcome, noting the appreciated efforts made by the Council under the presidency of His Excellency Dr. Ghulamallah in the field of spreading moderation, tolerance and coexistence, and combating extremist ideology and fanaticism in the service of Islam and Muslims in Algeria. His Excellency also affirmed that the Academy is fully prepared to provide all kinds of doctrinal, scientific and intellectual support to the Council, out of its belief in the necessity of strengthening and supporting the tremendous efforts made by the leading religious institutions in the member states of the OIC in order for them to carry out their duties to the fullest extent and be beneficial to Muslims in their respective countries. His Excellency added that the Academy is ready to conclude a long-term strategic partnership with the Council that enables it to involve its scholars and researchers in all sessions and conferences held by the Academy in order to benefit from its important outputs and wise resolutions, in addition to obtaining all scientific publications and periodicals of the Academy on a regular basis.
His Excellency then presented His Excellency the President with a souvenir from the Academy. The meeting was attended by His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah Maqshoush, Advisor to the President of the Council, His Excellency Mr. Rachid Bourokoua, Secretary of Foreign Affairs at the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, and Mr. Jawzy Lardjane, Head of Translation Division at the Academy.
