Secretary-General of the Academy receives the Dean of the Consular Corps in Jeddah

The Secretary-General of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy, H.E. Prof. Koutoub Sano, received on Monday in his office on 6 Jamada Al-Oula 1442 corresponding to 21 December 2020, H.E. Amb. Ali Muhammad Al-Ayashi, Consul General of the Republic of Yemen in Jeddah, and the Dean of the Diplomatic and Consular Corps, who came to congratulate His Excellency on his assumption of office as Secretary-General of the Academy.

His Excellency welcomed Amb. Ali Muhammad Al-Ayashi and thanked him for his congratulations and for his visit, which is his first visit to the Academy’s headquarters. His Excellency briefed the most important scientific and intellectual activities and programs of the Academy. He also presented to the Ambassador the great role of the Academy in combating intolerance, extremism and fanaticism on both intellectual and behavioral levels by disseminating and strengthening the values of moderation, temperance, and tolerance within and outside the Muslim world.

His Excellency told the Ambassador, that the Academy, since its establishment, has adopted the method of rapprochement and complementarity among the jurists of recognized Islamic schools in formulating its resolutions, recommendations and statements on issues of concern to Muslims around the world. His Excellency also expressed his thanks for the support of the Republic of Yemen to the Academy since its establishment until today.

For his part, Amb. Ali al-Ayashi thanked His Excellency for the additional information on the Academy’s mission and the important activities and programs it carries out in the field of awareness-raising, guidance and leadership. The Secretary-General also reviewed the distinguished and well-established relations of the Republic of Yemen with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in general and the International Islamic Fiqh Academy in particular, and welcomed his willingness to strengthen cooperation between the Academy and Yemeni scientific institutions.

His Excellency took this opportunity to express the desire of the Secretariat-General of the Academy to hold an expanded consultative meeting with all the General Representations and Consulates of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the countries where Muslim communities live abroad, in order to consult on the modalities of cooperation and coordination between the Academy and the fatwa institutions and Islamic councils in these countries. The Ambassador welcomed this generous initiative of the Secretary-General, emphasizing his willingness – in his capacity as the dean of the diplomatic and consular corps in Jeddah – to communicate with all diplomatic representations and consulates in Jeddah to realize this initiative by holding a consultative meeting as soon as possible.

At the end of the meeting, H.E. Amb. Ali al-Ayashi visited the library of the Academy named after Sheikh Mohamed Habib Belkhoja, the first Secretary-General and founding member of the Academy.
