Secretary-General of the Academy participates in the Global Conference on Epidemics in Islamic Civilization
31 December، 2020

The Secretary-General of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy, H.E. Prof. Koutoub Sano, participated by videoconference in the Global Conference organized by the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences, entitled: “Epidemics Management in Islamic Civilization”, between 10-11 Jamada al-Oula 1442, corresponding to 25-26 December 2020 in the State of Kuwait.

His Excellency delivered the opening speech at the conference in which he described the importance and expectations of this conference to crystallize an integrated conception of epidemics and provide medical jurisprudential solutions to many related issues.

His Excellency spoke of ahadeeth that illustrate the concern of Prophet Muhammad, blessing and peace be upon him, for the health, welfare and life of people, and that, peace be upon him, was the first to establish the isolation and quarantine regulations in force today, when he ordered people to stay in their homes and places in case of the outbreak of an epidemic such as the plague. He also said that the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, commanded us not to mingle with the sick in case of an epidemic. He said, “If you hear of an outbreak of plague in a land, do not enter it; but if the plague outbreaks out in a place while you are in it, do not leave that place.” Reported by Al-Bukhari.

He also said, blessings and peace be upon him: “Those with contagious diseases should be kept away from those who are healthy.” This is not specific to the plague, but rather includes all other infectious and epidemic diseases.

His Excellency spoke about several methods followed by the honorable Companions – may Allah be pleased with them – such as the Commander of the Believers, Omar bin Al-Khattab – may Allah be pleased with him – who postponed his journey to the Levant because of the spread of the plague.

His Excellency clarified that the aforementioned ahadeeth are considered as testimonies and foundations for the coordination of efforts and cooperation in crystallizing concepts and principles that would educate the general public and motivate them to follow the preventive medical instructions.

His Excellency confirmed that the International Islamic Fiqh Academy is ready to work with the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences, as usual, to clarify the Shariah rulings related to the pandemic, which serve the objectives of the Shariah and protect souls and lives until life returns to normal.

May Allah the Almighty eliminate this evil from all countries and all humanity.
