IIFA Secretary-General participates in the 33rd International Conference of Muslims in Latin America and the Caribbean

The Secretary-General of the Academy, H.E. Prof. Koutoub Sano, participated via videoconference in the 33rd Conference of Muslims in Latin America and the Caribbean, held under the title of “Islamic Legal Provisions on Epidemics and Pandemics” between 15-16 Jamada al-Oula 1442, corresponding to 30-31 December 2020, jointly organized by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Call Center for in Latin America.

In his opening speech, His Excellency praised the importance of this conference in this difficult phase the world is going through due to this pandemic which has claimed nearly two million victims, changed the way of life and had an huge impact on the global economy.

As the title of the conference indicates, His Excellency called on the participants to cooperate and integrate between jurists and physicians to formulate jurisprudential rulings that stem from a correct and integrated perception of the issues in hand before clarifying the Shariah provisions that concern them.

His Excellency also called on the participants to respect the precautionary policies and procedures issued by local authorities around the world, based on the legal maxims such as “rulers’ decisions must be in favour of public interest.” acting on the governed is related to the interest” and “the governor’s ruling lifts the disagreement”, as well as the necessity to obey Allah, His Messenger, the authorities and the rulers.
