61st Weekly Meeting of Departments Directors

The General Secretariat of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFA) held its 61st weekly meeting for the directors of the departments headed by His Excellency Prof. Koutoub Moustapha Sano, the Secretary General, on Monday 07 Jumada II 1443H corresponding to 10 January 2022G at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Academy in Jeddah.

At the beginning of the meeting, His Excellency welcomed the attendees, thanking them for their commitment to participate in the weekly meetings, reiterating the importance of these meetings, which make everyone on the same level of follow-up of the activities and programs of the Academy. Then His Excellency spoke about his meeting and the delegation from the Academy with His Royal Highness Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Governor of Makkah Al-Mukarramah Province in his office, praising the importance of this meeting and its impact on the future of the General Secretariat of the Academy. His Excellency stated that he took the opportunity to present an overview of the Academy, especially its mission of presenting Shariah in a moderate way, highlighting its advantages, and its ability to achieve happiness and stability for the individual and society. He also elucidated the Academy’s continuous efforts in correcting misconceptions and stereotypical images about Islam, stressing the Academy’s commitment in its resolutions, recommendations, and statements to the approach of moderation, and the dissemination of a culture of moderation, tolerance, and coexistence, in an effort to unite the Ummah’s voice and unite its ranks.

His Excellency also expressed to His Highness the Academy’s thanks and gratitude to the host country, which has embraced the Academy since its establishment four decades ago and has provided and continues to provide it with all the resources and facilities that help it achieve its goals and fulfill its mission.

His Excellency concluded by directing the Research and Studies Department to provide the Emirate with the Academy’s resolutions, recommendations and publications related to promoting a culture of moderation and tolerance and rejecting fanaticism, extremism, and terrorism. He also called on the Department of Planning and International Cooperation to expedite the completion of the procedures for signing a cooperation agreement between the Academy and the Prince Khaled Al-Faisal Institute for Moderation (I’tidal) at King Abdelaziz University in Jeddah.

The meeting resulted in several decisions, the most important of which are:

  • Starting preparations for holding a seminar on “Fatwas in Muslim Communities: Challenges and Prospects”, during the month of February, in cooperation with the World Muslim Communities Council.
  • Compile the resolutions and recommendations of the Academy on the issues of moderation, tolerance and coexistence in a booklet and translate them into the languages ​​approved by the Organization.
  • Communicating with the Prince Khaled Al-Faisal Institute for Moderation (I’tidal) at King Abdelaziz University to set a date for signing the cooperation agreement with them.
