His Excellency Prof. Koutoub Moustapha Sano, Secretary General of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFA), welcomed His Excellency Dr. Abdul Khaleq Medhat Al-Azzawi, President of the Sunni Waqf Office in the Republic of Iraq, and his accompanying delegation, on the evening of Tuesday 13 Dhul Hijjah 1443H corresponding to 12 July 2022G at his residence in Makkah Al Mukarramah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

His Excellency began by expressing his thanks and appreciation to His Excellency the President of the Sunni Waqf and the accompanying delegation for the visit, stressing the full readiness of the Academy to strengthen relations of cooperation, partnership and coordination with the Sunni Waqf Office in all issues and questions of concern to the Iraqi people, especially with regard to spreading the culture of moderation, tolerance, coexistence, and harmony, and renounce extremism, fanaticism, and terrorism. His Excellency also expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Republic of Iraq for its continuous support for the Academy from its establishment to the present day, praising the distinguished contributions of Iraqi scholars who continue to represent Iraq in the Council of the Academy. His Excellency concluded by expressing the Academy’s readiness to sign a cooperation agreement with the Sunni Waqf in the near future to expand and define possible areas of cooperation and communication between the two institutions for the benefit and good of the Iraqi people.

For his part, His Excellency the President of the Sunni Waqf expressed his great thanks and gratitude to His Excellency for the warm welcome to him and the accompanying delegation, praising the pioneering role of the Academy in the field of combating extremism, extremist ideology and terrorism, promoting moderation and spreading tolerance. His Excellency also expressed his aspiration for closer cooperation and coordination between the Sunni Waqf and the Academy in all possible areas of communication and integration, especially the exchange of scientific visits, and the holding of specialized seminars on topics of interest to Muslims in the Republic of Iraq. His Excellency concluded by inviting His Excellency the Secretary General to visit the Republic of Iraq in the near future and welcoming the signing of a cooperation agreement between the two institutions.
