83rd Weekly Meeting of Department Directors

The General Secretariat of the Academy held its 83rd weekly meeting for the directors of the departments on Wednesday 30 of Dhu al-Qi’dah 1443H, corresponding to 29 June 2022G, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat in Jeddah.

The meeting was chaired by His Excellency Prof. Koutoub Moustapha Sano, Secretary General of the Academy, who started it by welcoming the attendees, then spoke about his visit to Afghanistan with a delegation of the Ummah’s eminent scholars. This visit comes in implementation of the decision of the Ministerial Council of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in its extraordinary session in Islamabad, Islamic Republic of Pakistan last December, which stipulated that the Academy lead a delegation of the Ummah’s scholars to visit Afghanistan in order to discuss and dialogue with the current authority on the issue of girls’ education, the issue of women’s work, and the issue of tolerance and coexistence.

His Excellency and the delegation of scholars met with a number of prominent Afghan scholars, and also met with a number of Afghan officials, led by the Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs, and the Ministers of Higher Education, Minerals, Interior, Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, and Justice. The delegation called on the current authority to allow Afghan girls to quickly return to classes in government schools. The delegation also called on the authority to allow Afghan women to work according to the Shariah regulations approved by the authority. His Excellency indicated that what the delegation heard from Afghan officials about girls’ education is heartening. His Excellency also indicated that he would send a detailed report on the visit to His Excellency the Secretary General of the OIC.

Then he discussed the items of the decisions of the previous meeting, and issued several new decisions, the most important of which are:

  • Invitation to discuss the concept presented for the mini-symposium on the phenomenon of Islamophobia in Pakistan with the Permanent Representative of Pakistan.
  • Provide an initial list of translators in order to cooperate with them in the upcoming seminars.
  • Inviting new institutions with which a memorandum of cooperation was signed recently to participate in the next session.
  • Allocating a separate e-mail for each of the Academy’s activities to be used to communicate with researchers, participants, and supporting and sponsoring institutions in order to facilitate the Academy’s workflow and good management of its activities.
