His Excellency Prof. Koutoub Moustapha Sano, Secretary General of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFA), received a delegation from the Iraqi Fiqh Academy headed by Sheikh Dr. Mahmoud Abdel Aziz Al-Ani, member of the Supreme Commission and President of the Council of Iraqi Scholars, on Wednesday, 21 Dhu al-Hijjah 1443H corresponding to 20 July 2022G at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Academy in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
His Excellency began by expressing his thanks and appreciation to the Sheikh and his accompanying delegation for the visit, stressing the full readiness of the Academy to strengthen relations of cooperation, partnership, and coordination with the Iraqi Fiqh Academy in all issues and questions of concern to the Iraqi people, especially with regard to spreading the culture of moderation and tolerance, coexistence and harmony, and renouncing extremism, fanaticism, and terrorism. His Excellency also expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Republic of Iraq for its continuous support for the Academy since its establishment to this day, praising the distinguished contributions of Iraqi scholars throughout the Ummah’s history. His Excellency also took the opportunity to provide his honorable guest with an overview of the Academy since its establishment until today, and to brief him on its programs, goals, and projects that it intends to implement in the future. His Excellency concluded by expressing the Academy’s readiness to sign a cooperation agreement with the Iraqi Fiqh Academy in the near future to identify and outline possible areas of cooperation and communication between the two institutions for the benefit of the Iraqi people and the Muslim Ummah as a whole.
For his part, the President of the Council of Iraqi Scholars expressed his great thanks and gratitude to His Excellency for the good reception and the warm welcome to him and the accompanying delegation, noting the great place that the Academy occupies in the hearts of Muslims because of its good reputation and profound impact on all aspects of their lives through sober and sound resolutions that it has issued over the years. His Eminence also praised the pioneering role of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy in combating extremism, extremist thought and terrorism, promoting moderation and spreading the idea of moderation and tolerance. His Excellency also expressed his warm welcome and his aspiration to strengthen cooperation and coordination between the Iraqi Fiqh Academy and the Academy in all possible areas of communication and integration, especially the exchange of scientific visits, and the holding of specialized seminars on topics of interest to Muslims in the Republic of Iraq and the region in general. His Excellency concluded by inviting His Excellency the Secretary General to visit the Republic of Iraq to closely review the programs and activities of the Iraqi Fiqh Academy and to sign a strategic cooperation agreement between the two institutions that will benefit Iraqi scholars and enhance the outcomes of their work in the service of Muslims there.
On the Iraqi side, the meeting was attended by Sheikh Dr. Hassan Suhail, member of the Supreme Commission of the Fiqh Academy, Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Al-Mashaykhi, Director of the Fiqh Academy, and Sheikh Dr. Muhammad Al-Hassan, representative of the scientific division of the Fiqh Academy. On the part of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy, Dr. Abdel-Fattah Mahmoud Abnauf, Director of the International Cooperation and Planning Department, and Mr. Mohammed Walid Al-Idrissi, Director of the Department of Media, Public Relations and Information & Communication Technology.
