His Excellency Prof. Koutoub Moustapha Sano, Secretary General of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFA), chaired the ninety-fourth weekly meeting of the directors of the Academy’s departments on Wednesday 23 Rabi’ al-Awwal 1444H, corresponding to 19 October 2022G, via video technology from his residence in Cairo, the Republic of Egypt.

His Excellency began the meeting by welcoming the attendees, thanking them for their keenness to attend these weekly meetings. His Excellency then spoke about his participation in the Seventh International Conference of Dar Al-Ifta under the title “Fatwa and Sustainable Development Goals” held under the auspices of His Excellency Mr. Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt. His Excellency delivered a speech at the opening session of the conference, in which he expressed his thanks and gratitude to the Republic of Egypt and its good people, leadership and people, for holding this honorable conference on an important topic of the hour. He also expressed his great thanks and great appreciation to His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Shawqi Ibrahim Abdel Karim Allam, Head of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Institutions and Bodies in the world, and the Grand Mufti of Egypt, for inviting the Academy to participate in this wonderful scientific forum.

In his speech, His Excellency pointed out the importance of the fatwa and its impact on the lives of peoples, as it is a haven for peoples and a refuge for nations in order to know the provisions of Shariah in calamities and developments. He also explained that the impact of the fatwa on individuals and societies has become fast because it is exercised through modern means, calling on states and concerned people to provide the necessary protection to issue fatwas, and to confront abnormal and corrupt fatwas. He also called for concerted efforts and integration of moves among the scholars and jurists to achieve unification, unite the word and unite the ranks in the face of the Ummah’s calamities and major fateful issues.

His Excellency also spoke about signing a cooperation agreement between the Academy and Al-Azhar University, hoping to benefit from the distinguished expertise and experiences of this great scientific university in the scientific, intellectual and research fields, as it is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the world.

Then the meeting discussed the items of the previous meeting’s decisions, to ascertain the extent of their achievement. Several decisions were issued by the meeting, the most important of which are:

• Continuing to send the rest of the finished research papers to the exhibitors for the Session’s research, while setting a date for sending the proposals along with the presentation projects.
• Sending a letter of thanks to the attendees of the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Academy’s Endowment Fund, with the minutes attached in its final form.
• Reviewing the approximate cost of media coverage of the Session received from the Media Department and making comments on it.
• Starting the preparation of the discretionary gifts presented to the guests participating in the twenty-fifth Session.
