IIFA Director of Family Affairs Participates in the OIC Coordination Meeting on the Family

Ms. Sarah Badewi, Director of the Family, Women, Childhood and Elderly Affairs Department at the International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFA), participated in the virtual coordination meeting held by the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to discuss ways and mechanisms for implementing Paragraph 4 of the Organization’s para. No. 4 of the resolution no.4/48-C on women, children and the family in general, on Thursday 14 Jumada Al-Awwal 1444H corresponding to 08 December 2022G.

The meeting, in which all the subsidiary bodies of the OIC participated, along with the International Islamic University in Malaysia, discussed the organization’s para. No. 4 of the resolution no.4/48-C, which requests member states to spread the values of Islam related to women, children and the family in general to highlight the true image of Islam and improve the conditions of children in the Muslim world. At the same time, the resolution requests the relevant OIC institutions in this regard to prepare, in coordination with the General Secretariat, a comprehensive and integrated document on Islamic values regarding women and children in order to build knowledge and awareness of these values and to counter the spread of misconceptions about Islam.

During the session, the participants deliberated on the best ways to develop good and effective implementation mechanisms for this important resolution and the steps taken by all participating bodies, in addition to the relevant department of the OIC’s general secretariat, to implement the organization’s resolution.

In this context, all participants submitted their suggestions in this regard, each according to their position and specialization, and the director of the Family Affairs Department at the Academy presented to the meeting the five-year plan drawn up by the general secretariat of the Academy to enhance the awareness of member states and Muslim societies of the importance of spreading Islamic values that relate to the institution of the family and all its components, and the need to address all the challenges faced by the family institution, especially the institution of marriage, the institution of childhood, elderly, and people with special needs. The director also highlighted the seminars and conferences that the Academy intends to hold on various issues and topics related to the family institution.
