At the kind invitation of Al-Baraka Islamic Economics Forum, H.E. Sheikh Dr. Saleh bin Hamid, Advisor to the Saudi Royal Court, Member of the Council of Senior Scholars, Imam-Khatib of the Grand Mosque, President of the Academy, and H.E. Prof. Koutoub Moustapha Sano, Secretary General of the Academy, participated in the opening ceremony of the 43rd Al-Baraka on Islamic Economics Forum, entitled “Islamic Economy and the Authenticity of Sustainability,” in the evening of Wednesday, 23 Sha’ban 1444, corresponding to 15 March 2023, at the headquarters of Prince Muqrin bin Abdulaziz Al Saud University in Madinah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
H.E. Sheikh Dr. Saleh bin Abdullah bin Humaid delivered a speech in which he discussed the state of legislation and laws governing the course of life, its development, and sustainability, stressing that Islamic legislation and jurisprudence is a solid platform and a high beacon in codifying the provisions, rulings, and controls that establish the concept of sustainability and survival. His Excellency also pointed out that the concept of sustainability is rooted in the principles of Sharia and that jurists have stipulated that “what is not permitted in foundations can be permitted in sustainability”.
This year’s symposium is a follow-up by Al-Baraka Islamic Economics Forum of the developments and changes that are taking place in the contemporary economy. Islamic economy should be present and participate in their financing and guidance. The symposium aimed to discuss many issues of economic and strategic development related to the concept of sustainability in Islamic economy, including the role of the non-profit sector in achieving sustainability, Islamic investment instruments, sustainability projects, Islamic banks, and their impact on the application of sustainability, as well as the presentation of global models for sustainability projects and initiatives, as well as Islamic economy and sustainability between reality and hope.
It is worth mentioning that the opening ceremony was patronized by HRH Prince Faisal bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Governor of Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah.
