H.E. Prof. Koutoub Moustapha Sano, Secretary General of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy, received H.E. Sheikh Salah Mezhiev, Mufti of the Republic of Chechnya and Advisor to the President of the Republic of Chechnya, together with a high-level delegation from Chechnya at the Academy’s headquarters in Jeddah, on 10th Ramadan 1445, corresponding to 20 March 2024. The delegation was accompanied by H.E. Ambassador Torko Daudov, Special Envoy of the Russian Federation to the OIC in Jeddah, and Mr. Artyom Hanani, Attaché at the Permanent Mission of Russia.
His Excellency expressed his thanks to the Mufti of Chechnya and the delegation for visiting the Academy, presented a brief overview of the Academy’s vision and objectives and affirmed the Academy’s readiness to cooperate with scientific institutions in the Russian Federation, especially Ifta Councils from its various republics. His Excellency suggested to the Mufti the creation of a national fatwa council that represents all republics of the Russian Federation to coordinate and unify fatwas on new issues and developments.
The Mufti of Chechnya thanked His Excellency for the warm welcome and the honor of visiting the Academy, which is regarded as the leading jurisprudential authority of the Muslim world, noting the excellent reputation the IIFA thanks to the esteemed services it provides to Muslims inside and outside the Muslim world. The Mufti stated that this visit aims to develop cooperation and partnership with the Academy in matters of ifta through joint conferences and seminars on issues of common interest. At the end of the meeting, the Mufti extended an invitation to the Secretary General of the Academy to visit Russia, precisely the Republic of Chechnya.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Mohammed Mondher Chouk, Director of Cabinet, Dr. Mohammed Mustafa Shoaib, Supervisor of Fatwa and Reviews Observatory, and Dr. Alhagi Manta Drammeh, Head of International Cooperation and External Relations at the Academy.
