His Excellency Sheikh Muhammad Taqi Usmani

Born in 1943 in the village of Deoband in the Indian province of Saharanpur to a family renowned for their knowledge, H.E. Sheikh Muhammad Taqi Usmani bin Muhammad Shafi` Al-Usmani bin Yassin studied many religious sciences in Persian and Urdu, then joined Dar Al Uloom University in Karachi, where he studied Sharia sciences and graduated in 1959, and also obtained the “Fadil Arabi” certificate with distinction in a year earlier in 1958. His Excellency also obtained the certificate “Specialization in Fatwas” in 1961 from the same university. His Excellency went on to study economics and politics and law and obtained a B.A. in economics and politics from the University of Karachi in 1964G, a B.A. in law from the same university in 1967, and an M.A. in Arabic sciences with honors in 1970 from the University of Punjab. His Excellency has been appointed as a representative member to the Council of the banks. His Excellency has taught Islamic sciences at the postgraduate levels equivalent to Master’s and PhD at Dar Al-Uloom University in Karachi. His Excellency has also been a professor of Hadith with an international degree equivalent to Master’s; and a supervisor of specialization degrees in Ifta and Dawah. His Eminence has also been appointed as a member of the Islamic Fiqh Academy of the World Islamic League, a member of the Aal al-Bayt Foundation of Islamic Thought, a member of the Sharia Supervisory Board of the Islamic Development Bank (Jeddah), and a member of the Sharia Council of the Guidance Financial Group in the United States of America. His Eminence is the author of numerous scholarly publications in Arabic and English, including the Jurisprudence of Sales according to the four schools of law with its contemporary applications; Research on Contemporary Jurisprudential Issues.

At the International Islamic Fiqh Academy, His Excellency represented the Islamic Republic of Pakistan since November 19, 1984. His Excellency has assumed several important positions, including Judge of the Federal Sharia Court of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan; Chairman of the Sharia Council of the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions in the Kingdom of Bahrain; Chairman of the Islamic Economics Center in Pakistan; Vice President of Dar Al Uloom University in Karachi; and Chairman of the Sharia Supervisory Board of some Islamic Maarif al-Quran into English; the completion of Fatah al-Mulhim fi sharh Sahih Muslim; the Origins and Etiquette of Ifta; Sukuk and its Contemporary Applications; Rulings on Tawarruq (securitization); and Rulings on Slaughter.
