Born in 1941 in the Republic of Tunisia, H.E. Dr. Othman Batikh earned a graduation certificate in 1963, a law degree in 1967 and a Sharia degree in 1972 from the Department of Fiqh and Sharia Policies, and a third-cycle doctorate, followed by a state doctorate in 1982. His Eminence has served in significant positions as judicial judge at the Tunis Court of First Instance from 1968 to 1971, professor at the Faculty of Sharia and Theology at al-Zaytuna University from 1980 to 2001, member of the Supreme Islamic Council from 1987 to 2010, advisor to Tunis Municipality for three parliamentary sessions, attaché to the Republic’s Presidency in charge of Religious Affairs Department from 2005 to 2010, Imam at Al-Zaytouna Mosque from 2002 to 2010, and Imam-Khatib at Mahrez bin Khalaf Mosque, then at Al-Abidin Mosque in Carthage. His Eminence was Mufti of the Tunisian Republic from 2009 to 2013, Minister of Religious Affairs in 2015, and again the Republic’s Mufti with minister grade from 2016 to date. Some of his research and articles have been published in local and international journals and newspapers. As a member of the Council of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy, H.E. Sheikh Dr. Othman Batikh has represented the Republic of Tunisia since March 22, 2015.
