Born in 1956 in Algiers, Prof. Kamal Bouzidi earned his baccalaureate in 1977 at Amara Rachid High School, a bachelor’s degree in 1986 at the Faculty of Islamic Sciences in Caroubier, and a magister degree in jurisprudence and its foundations in 1992 with a thesis entitled: “A Companion’s Opinion and its Influence on Sharia rulings”, and earned a state doctorate in jurisprudence and contemporary fiqh issues, entitled: “Exemption in Sharia and its Impact on Contemporary Fiqh Rulings”. His Eminence served in important scientific positions as Chairman of the Scientific Council of the University of Algiers’s Faculty of Islamic Sciences (Le Caroubier), Director of the Sharia Department, and Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Faculty of Sharia and Law at the same university, respectively. His Eminence has also served as an expert member for the Evaluation Committee of Islamic Sciences Curricula under the Ministry of Higher Education, as well as coordinator of the scientific colloquia organized by the Faculty of Islamic Sciences monthly. His Eminence has also been a senior member of several institutions, including the Supreme Islamic Council (Algeria), National Ifta Committee of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Awqaf, National Committee of Religious Affairs of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Awqaf, National Committee of Fatwas and Islamic Financial Industry of the Supreme Islamic Council, as well as the chairman of the Ifta Committee of the Supreme Islamic Council As a member of the Council of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy, H.E. Prof. Kamel Bouzidi has represented the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria since April 29, 2009.
