H.E. Prof. Nasreddin Omar, Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, received on Thursday, 19 Jumada Al-Ula 1446, corresponding to 21 November 2024, H.E. Prof. Koutoub Moustapha Sano, Secretary General of the Academy, at his office at the headquarters of the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Jakarta.

The Indonesian Minister welcomed the Secretary General and his accompanying delegation, thanked him for accepting the invitation of the Ministry to participate in the international forum organized by the Ministry on the interests of Sharia in the service of the government, and praised the wonderful speech delivered by the Secretary General in that forum and his outstanding contribution to the promotion of moderation and tolerance throughout the world. His Excellency then spoke about the Ministry’s desire to strengthen cooperation and partnership with the Academy in all fields, especially in the field of studying contemporary issues with the aim of providing Shariah solutions to the problems of contemporary life. He also praised the pioneering role and worldview of the Academy in issuing resolutions and fatwas on contemporary issues and developments, and expressed his desire to promote Indonesia in the Council of the Academy and its positive participation in the General Secretariat of the Academy, while expressing Indonesia’s willingness to host one of the upcoming sessions and several seminars on various topics.

The Secretary General expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation to the Minister for the warm welcome and hospitality, praising his scientific standing and high intellectual level, which makes him optimistic about a bright future for religious affairs in Indonesia. His Excellency also expressed his satisfaction with the development of enlightened Islamic thought throughout Indonesia and assured the Minister that the Academy looks forward to close cooperation and coordination with the Ministry and other scientific institutions interested in spreading moderation.

At the end of the meeting, the two parties exchanged souvenirs. The meeting was attended by H.E. Prof. Kamaruddin Amin, Director General of Islamic Affairs, Mrs. Fertina, Head of the French Language Department, and Mrs. Sarah Amjad Bedewi, Supervisor of the Secretary General’s Office.
