Secretary General meets Sultanate of Brunei’s Minister of Religious Affairs

During his official visit to the Sultanate of Brunei Darussalam, H.E. Prof. Koutoub Moustapha Sano, Secretary General of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy, met H.E. Prof. Dr. Haji Badli bin Haji Bashir, Minister of Religious Affairs in the Sultanate of Brunei, at his office in the capital, Bandar Seri Begawan, on Thursday afternoon, 9 Dhul Hijjah 1446, corresponding to 5 June 2025.

The meeting discussed ways to enhance the existing cooperation between the Academy and the Ministry of Religious Affairs in the fields of jurisprudence, thought, advocacy, and training. The two sides also reviewed possible areas of partnership in organizing scientific events and conferences specialized in contemporary Islamic jurisprudence.

Accordingly, the Secretary General expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to the Government of Brunei and the Ministry of Religious Affairs for their continuous support of the Academy and their active and distinguished participation in its sessions and conferences over the years, which reflects the Sultanate’s permanent commitment to serving the causes of Islam and Muslims and its keenness to strengthen the Academy’s authority on contemporary issues. The Secretary General also expressed his deep thanks and appreciation to the Minister for the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ initial readiness to host the next session of the Academy after Malaysia, stressing that this approach reflects Brunei’s keenness to support joint Islamic action and serve the issues of the Ummah in light of the objectives of Sharia.

For his part, the Minister of Religious Affairs welcomed the idea of Brunei hosting the Academy’s sessions, stressing that the ministry will do its utmost to provide everything possible for the success of these sessions, as they have a significant impact on spreading moderation, promoting collective jurisprudence, and consolidating the values of tolerance and moderation.

After the meeting, the two parties expressed their aspirations for further coordination and communication in order to achieve common goals and serve Islam and Muslims.
