Statement on the Attempted Sabotage of the Abqaiq Refineries in Saudi Arabia

Praise is due to Allāh, Lord of the worlds, may the blessings and peace be upon our master Muḥammad, the last of prophets, on his family, and all his companions.

The International Islamic Fiqh Academy of the Organization of the Islamic Conference expresses its deep displeasure over the sabotage attempts that affected the Abqaiq refinery in Saudi Arabia, which failed, thanks be to Allah, before its execution.

These sabotage attempts have proven that the perpetrators do not sense the consequences of their actions and the heinous effects they can have on the Muslim community as a whole by attempting to carry out an attack on one of the most important foundations of the country and the community.

The Academy expresses its optimism and relief when the authorities, in record time, succeeded in surrounding the terrorists involved in this attempt and eliminating them in one of Riyadh districts of the city of Riyadh.

While supporting the security measures taken by the Saudi government to eliminate the perpetrators of this indiscriminate attempt, the Academy asserts that the Saudi security men are treating these assailants as they deserve and are punishing them properly without omitting the teachings of Islam by giving the chance to those who want to repent, and thus protect the Muslims from further evil.

The Academy reiterates that Islam and Muslims reject criminal acts, violence, terrorism, killing and destructions which Shariah forbids; Allah The Almighty said: « whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land – it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one – it is as if he had saved mankind entirely. » Al-Ma’ida -32

The Academy commends the government of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, for its achievements in combating terrorism at the political, legal and security levels.

And may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family and companions.
