IIFA statement on the vandalism and looting in the Republic of Tunisia following the revolution ousting the President

Praise is due to Allāh, Lord of the worlds, may the blessings and peace be upon our master Muḥammad, the last of prophets, on his family, and all his companions.

The Secretariat General of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy, has been following the various media reports about the revolution against the Tunisian president and his removal from office and the resulting acts of assassination and terrorism, as well as vandalism and looting.

in the name of all scholars of the Ummah worldwide, the Secretariat General wishes to express its great indignation and to denounce any act that may lead to the death of people, the moral or physical harm of the innocent, or the ransacking and destruction of private or public properties.

Similarly, the Secretariat General out that the prohibition of theft is among the most stable rules of Islamic Sharia, and its perpetrator is liable to punishment. Allah The Almighty says: « [As for] the thief, the male and the female, amputate their hands in recompense for what they committed as a deterrent [punishment] from Allah. And Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise. » Al-Ma’ida -38

. Acts of murder and terrorism against the innocent and the looting and destruction of private and public property, which some armed groups perpetrate, is an act of corruption on earth, which the principles of Islam reject and which the Shariah forbids. Allah The Almighty has forbidden them in His Word: « And when he goes away, he strives throughout the land to cause corruption therein and destroy crops and animals. And Allah does not like corruption. (*) And when it is said to him, “Fear Allah,” pride in the sin takes hold of him. Sufficient for him is Hellfire, and how wretched is the resting place. » Al-Baqara -205-206

, and in His Words: « do not kill the soul which Allah has forbidden [to be killed] except by [legal] right. This has He instructed you that you may use reason.” » Al-An’am -151

Their perpetrators are considered criminals, sowers of corruption on earth who deserve the punishment of Allah in this world as well as in the Hereafter. Allah The Almighty says: crucified or that their hands and feet be cut off from opposite sides or that they be exiled from the land. That is for them a disgrace in this world; and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment, » Al-Ma’ida -33. And He says: « And do not kill the soul which Allah has forbidden, except by right.»

Al-Isra -33

In addition, the Secretariat General of the Academy, urges anyone who has ever stolen public money and properties to return it to its place or to the relevant authorities, once order is restored in the country.

Similarly, the Secretariat General stresses that the preservation of order in these moments that the country is going through, is a religious duty on any able person.

The Secretariat General urges all Tunisians to help each other to thwart the perpetrators of these acts, in order to preserve the security of their country.
