President of Iraq receives Secretary General of the Academy at Presidential Palace in Baghdad

H.E. Mr. Abdul Latif Rashid, President of the Republic of Iraq, received H.E. Professor Koutoub Moustapha Sano, Secretary General of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy, and the accompanying delegation, on Sunday morning, 19th Ramadan 1444, corresponding to 9th April 2023, in the presidential palace in Baghdad.

His Excellency, the President of Iraq, greeted the Secretary General and stressed the importance of scholars in spreading the culture of moderation and presenting moderate concepts and ideas in the relations between religions and Islamic sects, also stressing the importance of confronting extremist ideas with moderate thinking through programs and practical projects, noting, in this regard, Iraq’s readiness to provide the necessary support to the Academy, in achieving its objectives and endeavours

For his part, the Secretary General expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to the President for allowing him and his delegation to visit Baghdad. His Excellency took this opportunity to express the aspiration of the Academy that the Republic of Iraq should host one of the coming Academy sessions in Iraq, following the example of other OIC Member States. His Excellency the President welcomed this request and directed the head of the Sunni Waqf Diwan to work on it shortly.

Among the attendees of the meeting were H.E. Mr. Mishaan Al-Khazraji, Head of the Sunni Waqf Diwan, and H.E. Mr. Muhammad Samir Al-Naqshbandi, Consul General and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq to the OIC, as well as Mr. Mohamed Adnan Al-Fihri, Director of Administrative and Financial Affairs at the Academy, and Mr. Amjad Ibrahim Mustafa, Head of the Protocols at the Academy.
