New Book by Dr. Mohamed Shoaib – Director of the Academy’s Research and Studies Department

The Secretariat General of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy congratulates Dr. Mohamed Mostafa Ahmed Shoaib, Director of the Research, Studies, Encyclopedias, Translation and Printing Department at the Academy, on the publication of his new book, “Maqasid Sharia in Finance: A Comparative Jurisprudential Study’, published by Dar Awraq Publishing in Egypt.

The book deals with the definition of Maqasid Sharia (objectives of Islamic law), its divisions and significance, the stages of its evolution, codification, completeness and development, and several important Sharia norms dealing with wealth, including the origins and means of halal earnings and the correct view of wealth in Islam. The book then deals with the general objectives of the Sharia for finance, summarizing them into six main objectives, namely: (preservation, prosperity, and promotion of wealth, clarity, stability, justice, reconciliation, forgiveness and prevention of disputes and quarrels). It also dealt with the Sharia objectives of earning and investing money and summarized them in nine main objectives, namely encouraging work and combating unemployment, observing halal and prohibiting ill-gotten gains, achieving full sufficiency for the individual and society, mastering and perfecting work, honesty and avoiding deception and omissions, not deviating from the obligatory rights of the taxpayer, justice and preventing injustice to others and violating their rights, planning, foresight and looking to the future, and honesty and explanation and avoiding lies and secrecy. The book also mentioned the most important Sharia objectives related to spending money and summarized them in six objectives, namely urging to spend money and spend it wisely, allowing good things and denouncing those who forbid them, moderation in spending and rationalizing consumption, warning against extravagance and explaining its evil effects, preventing to spend money on forbidden things, and preserving the environment and its components, in addition to several other findings and recommendations.

The Secretariat General of the Academy congratulates again Dr. Shoaib on the publication of this book and wishes him continued success, and that Allah will benefit Islam and Muslims through his knowledge.
