
As part of the Academy’s commitment to contributing to cultural issues with civilizational significance and strengthening its presence in scientific and cultural events in line with its mission to serve contemporary Islamic concerns, Dr Alhagi Manta Drammeh, Head of the International Cooperation and External Relations Division, took part in an academic seminar titled “Popular Cultural Heritage in Ramadan.” The seminar was held on Sunday, 19 Ramadan 1447 AH, corresponding to 8 March 2026, via videoconference.
The seminar addressed the most prominent customs and traditions associated with the month of Ramadan across OIC member states amid rapid social and cultural transformations. It also discussed the challenges facing this popular cultural heritage and the means of preserving it.
The seminar concluded with a set of proposed visions and policy recommendations aimed at safeguarding the popular cultural heritage of Ramadan and strengthening the sustainability of its religious and cultural identity. A comprehensive report containing the key issues and recommendations will be submitted to the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to support the development of relevant policies.
