
At the kind invitation of the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Dr Alhagi Manta Drammeh, Director of the Department of International Cooperation and External Relations, took part in a specialised seminar titled “Humanitarian Action as a Tool for Promoting Human Rights and the Values of Coexistence and Tolerance.” The seminar was held on Thursday, 16 Ramadan 1447 AH, corresponding to 5 March 2026, at the OIC headquarters in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It was part of a joint Ramadan event organised by the OIC Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission in cooperation with the Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA), aimed at raising awareness of the link between humanitarian work and human rights.
The seminar opened by emphasising the vital role humanitarian action plays in protecting human dignity, especially in areas affected by crises, disasters, and conflicts. It also highlighted its contribution to strengthening the values of coexistence and tolerance and promoting social peace within diverse communities.
In his intervention, Dr Drammeh stressed the importance of integrating humanitarian work with religious values to reinforce human rights principles. He explained that religious institutions play a central role in raising awareness, promoting the values of compassion and solidarity, and fostering a culture of responsibility toward individuals and society.
The seminar also featured participation of several entities, including the OIC General Secretariat, the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission, the King Abdulaziz Center for National Dialogue, the Muslim World League, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, and the Islamic Solidarity Fund. Their involvement reflects the diversity of efforts and complementarity of roles in serving humanitarian causes.
