Address by H.E. Sheikh Saleh bin Humaid at the Memorial Service of H.E. Prof. Abdul Salam Al-Abbadi – May Allah have mercy on him
8 September، 2020

In the Name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful

All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon our master Muhammad, the seal of prophets, on his family, all his companions and who follow his well-guided path

Glory be to Allah, who through His wisdom, has fulfilled His commandment in every creature, and every human being was destined for his sustenance and his life. He created death and life so that you will perform the best deeds. He is the Living One who does not die, and there is no refuge or shelter except Him,

(To your Lord, that Day, is the [place of] permanence. Man will be informed that Day of what he sent ahead and kept back.12-13)

It is death, one of the stages of this existence, and it is an unlimited right; the days are numbered and the deeds are written, and the soul will not die until it has fulfilled its means of existence and for itself:

(Every soul shall taste death. 57)

(Everyone upon the earth will perish. And there will remain the Face of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor. 26-27)

Death is the greatest reminder that Allah has determined for His creation, for it is inevitable, so when its time comes, even if it was in the valleys, or on top of the mountains, or underwater, or in the sky, or in fortified towers or well-built fortresses.

The evocation of death, this imminent departure, the swiftness and end of life are among the most effective medicines for the hearts, because they encourage to seize the opportunities of goodness and to undertake good deeds before the books and records are closed.

Having said that, we lost a dear brother, a dear colleague, a virtuous scholar and a high scientific stature of these days.

He is my dear brother His Excellency Professor Abdul Salam Daoud Al-Abbadi, Secretary-General of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy. He passed away on the morning of Monday, 20 Dhu al-Hijjah 1441, corresponding to August 10, 2020, in the city of Jeddah.

This tragedy has afflicted us, and it is a scourge that has increased our sorrow. It is an affliction that has bequeathed sadness, but we praise Allah for making us Muslims.

We should follow the advice of our Master and Prophet Muhammad, may blessings and peace be upon him, and we say: The eyes and the heart are weeping, we speak only what pleases our Lord. The separation of our brother Abdul Salam is sad.

He was prayed upon in Makkah and was buried in Al-Mualla Cemetery, may Allah have mercy on him.
