H.E. Prof. Koutoub Sano receives the delegation of the Islamic Economics Institute of King Abdulaziz University

H.E. Prof. Mustapha Sano, Secretary-General of the Academy, received at the headquarters of the Academy in Jeddah on Monday 8 Rabi` Al-Akhir 1442, corresponding to 23 November 2020, a delegation of the Islamic Economics Institute of King Abdul Aziz University in Jeddah. The delegation was headed by H. Em. Prof. Abdullah Qurban Turkistani, Dean of the Institute, and included several professors from the Institute, such as H. Em. Dr. Hassan Makhethi, Vice-Dean of the Institute for Graduate Studies, H. Em. Dr. Omar Zuhair Hafez, H. Em. Prof. Ibrahim Abulola, and H. Em. Dr. Abdulrahim Al-Saati.

The Secretary-General of the Academy welcomed the honorable delegation and thanked them for their visit to the Academy. His Excellency briefed the delegation on the efforts of Academy in responding to contemporary issues and to clarify the Shariah provisions regarding these issues based on the collective Ijtihad in which cooperation takes place between jurists and experts, as well as between jurists of recognized legal schools. His Excellency spoke about the great impact of the resolutions of the Academy, particularly those related to Islamic economics in general and Islamic banking in particular. His Excellency also told the delegation that the Academy has been able – in four decades – to issue 238 resolutions, including more than a hundred resolutions in the field of Islamic economics, such as banking, insurance, sukuk etc, in addition to other resolutions on different subjects such as family, women, children, ideological security, denunciation of fanaticism, as well as the fight against extremism and terrorism.

H. Em. Prof. Abdullah Qurban Turkistani expressed his contentment with this meeting, praising the efforts of the Academy in the field of Islamic economics. His Eminence also invited His Excellency the Secretary-General of the Academy to give a lecture on the jurisprudence of transactions as part of the <Wednesday Debate> held periodically by the Institute for many years. His Excellency, the Secretary-General of the Academy, welcomed the invitation, thanked His Eminence and promised to respond to it soon.

At the end of the visit, His Excellency assured the delegation of the need to activate the cooperation agreement concluded years ago. Subsequently, H. Em. Prof. Abdullah Turkistani presented to His Excellency a collection of the Institute’s publications.

He commended the tremendous support, gracious care, and continuous attention the Academy has received from the leadership and people of Jordan since its establishment. He also conveyed his sincere appreciation for the Ambassador’s recent visit to the Academy, affirming the Academy’s full readiness to do everything that would enhance partnership, cooperation, coordination, and communication between the Academy and Jordanian religious and academic institutions. His Excellency was accompanied by Mr. Mohammed Al‑Mundhir Rida Al‑Shawk, Director of the Office and Protocol; Mr. Mohammed Waleed Al‑Idrisi, Director of Media and Public Relations; Ms. Sarah Amjad Badawi, Director of the Department of Family, Women, Children, and the Elderly; and Mr. Amjad Ibrahim Al‑Mansi, Head of the Protocol Section.
