Born in 1968 in Turkey, H.E. Prof. Murteza Bedir obtained a bachelor’s degree in 1992 from the Faculty of Theology at Marmara University, a master’s degree in 1995 in law from the University of London, and a doctorate in 1999 at the Faculty of Arts from the University of Manchester, with a thesis entitled “The Emergence of Fundamentals of Hanafi Jurisprudence (Legal Affairs)”. His Eminence has served in important positions, as Dean of the Faculty of Theology at Istanbul University, Professor of Jurisprudence at Istanbul University, Assistant Professor and Associate Professor at Sakarya University, a visiting researcher at Harvard Law School, and currently a professor at the Faculty of Theology at Istanbul University. He is a member of the Supreme Council of Turkish Religious Affairs, has supervised several PhD dissertations and participated on the management committees of international and local conferences. As a member of the Council of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy, H.E. Prof. Mortada Badr has represented the Republic of Turkey since March 22, 2015.
