Born and raised in Makkah in 1356H, corresponding to 1937G. H.E. Prof. Abdel Wahab Ibrahim Muhammad Abu Suleiman received his general education in Makkah, studied under scholars of Al-Masjid Al- Haram, and obtained a bachelor’s degree at the Faculty of Sharia in Makkah, in 1377/1958, then earned a PhD from London University in 1390/1970, in addition to diploma in law from London College of Legal Studies. His Excellency has served in various positions, as Dean of the College of Sharia at Umm Al-Qura University, a member of the Council of Senior Scholars, and a visiting professor in a number of universities in Saudi Arabia, America, Malaysia, UAE, and the Islamic Republic of Iran. He also participated in numerous scientific conferences and supervised several master’s and doctoral dissertations. His Excellency is the author of several publications, including Imam Al- Shaafi’s Approach to Fiqh and Usul, Research Methodology in Fiqh: its Characteristics and Shortcomings, Usul Fiqh: A Critical Analytical Study, the Taxonomy of Fiqh Themes and their Contexts within the Four Schools of Law. His Excellency is the recipient of several awards and medals from universities, scientific institutions, and literary clubs, most notably Prince Nayef International Prize for the Prophet’s Sunnah, and King Faisal International Prize for Islamic Studies. As a member of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy, H.E. Prof Abd al- Wahab Abu Sulaiman has represented the Council of Senior Scholars, and has participated as a researcher, commentator, and speaker in its various sessions and seminars.
